Building Test-Taking Tenacity with HCOP

Spring is beginning to show its face, and with the spring comes impending exam dates for many HCOP high school participants. All qualifying high school participants have been provided with self-paced Kaplan test prep software and question banks through HCOP, which has proven fundamental in studying for the ACT or SAT. To top it off, HCOP provides proctored practice testing dates in order to give students ample experience taking their tests in “exam conditions”, and HCOP Session 11 was one of these days!

The staff was excited to give students the opportunity to take either the mock ACT or SAT during session 11, depending on the exam a student was most ardently studying for. Due to the virtual nature of the 2020-2021 Ambassador program, students were proctored virtually by Christina Jelinek, HCOP Academic Success Counselor, and stayed on-camera while taking their test.

Taking practice tests under exam conditions (i.e. in a quiet space, with no extra breaks or distractions) is one of the most effective ways to improve one’s score, along with self-testing using practice questions and analyzing the results to see where mistakes were made. As ACT and SAT dates draw closer, HCOP staff will be with students each step of the way to ensure success on test day!
