2021 Online Structured Summer Session – Student Orientation

HCOP is closing out Year 3 with a bang with yet another virtual session filled with future health professionals!!!

Graduation season is over and we’ve jumped into a new season of academic and professional groundwork with fifty (50) remarkable high school and undergraduate students who each have made the commitment to continue to prepare themselves for success during the summer.

Exactly what does a commitment to the current 2021 Online Structured Summer Session look like - for starters, each student commits to a program schedule consisting of Monday – Thursday (10:00 A.M. CST – 3:30 P.M. CST) and Friday (11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. CST) for the entire six-week session. The session is a structured, six-week program (Monday – Friday) that provides a plethora of academic enrichment opportunities where students partake in virtual classroom instruction focused on upper-level mathematics/science/reading/writing (i.e. Gross Anatomy, Genetics, Biochemistry, Academic Reading and Writing, etc.), standardized test preparation (i.e. ACT/SAT, MCAT, DAT, PCAT, etc.), various health-related workshops, professional development seminars, virtual clinical shadowing, virtual field trips, and much more – the session began Monday, June 7, 2021 and will end Friday, July 16, 2021.

The 2021 Online Structured Summer Session – Student Orientation was held on Monday, June 7, 2021 and kicked off the session with all things HCOP!!! Students got to join HCOP staff along with their fellow peers for a much anticipated virtual student orientation via Zoom. Keeping in line with our previous virtual student orientation, each student was provided with their very own personalized e-Orientation packet beforehand to review which included information related to HCOP’s mission, vision and purpose, HCOP’s community partners, student daily sign-in instructions, program session calendar, student course schedule, academic support, pre-assessment surveys, and tons of other academic requirements.

During orientation, students got to “meet” HCOP Program Director - Dr. Sade Kosoko-Lasaki, HCOP Program Supervisor – Aminatu Issaka, and HCOP Academic Success Counselor – Christina Jelinek. After three (3) hours of screen-sharing, getting through introductions, enjoying a few icebreakers, covering the rules and regulations of the program, asking questions, and getting used to all of us being in different time zones – everyone expressed a huge amount of excitement towards the summer session ahead!

Kudos to all the new students as you journey through the next six-weeks!!
