By the time students graduate from health professional school, they have learned an enormous breadth of academic information. This learning is meant to help shape them into competent, confident and compassionate professionals. However, many new health professionals (especially first-generation health professionals) go into the workforce on “shaky” ground when it comes to advocating for themselves and negotiating contracts and salary.
On Saturday, October 23rd, HCOP health professional students took part in a workshop led by HCOP Program Director, Dr. Sade Kosoko-Lasaki. She provided the students with insight into the contract and salary negotiation process by helping outline the goal of salary negotiation, how to prepare for the discussion of salary, how to “calculate your worth”, and the offer/counter-offer process.
HCOP health professional students were able to leave the workshop with a better understanding of the salary negotiation process.
